Resurrection
It's been long enough since my last post, that I felt "Resurrection" was an appropriate title. I've had numerous adventures and misadventures in that time, many of which are noteworthy. I'll discuss those as they become relevant to a post that I may write in the future. In the mean time, I'd like to talk about what I'm doing now.
Python has been on my "languages to learn" list for a while. It's a language that revels in it's readability, relying on whitespace and a notable lack of "noise" characters. It's portable. Whether it's Windows, Linux, JVM or .NET makes no difference. You're Python app will run. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, the Python community is a strong one. In Ann Arbor, we are fortunate enough to have a particularly strong group, Michigan Python Usergroup.
At this point, I'm still using IDLE, the IDE that comes as part of the Standard Python Software Download, but I've been longing - yes, longing - for a new development environment. What that is, I'm not quite sure. I've used Notepad2 and it's functional, but I really like it when my editor can indent automatically for me. That's why I just downloaded PyScripter. It looks promising, but I won't know until I install it.
